Providing Access to Healthcare for the Deaf Community (PAH) is a partnership between Employment Solutions for Deaf and Hard of Hearing, LLC and the Independence Empowerment Center (IEC) through a grant from the Potomac Health Foundation. The goal of this project is to empower Deaf, Hard of Hearing and Deaf-Blind people to learn about available services, improve their health and advocate for their rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
PAH provides advocacy services, community workshops, information referral and brochures on topics affecting Deaf individuals. Advocacy services include help navigating the system, self-advocacy training, applying for benefits (such as SSI/SSDI), amongst others. Community workshops are for the entire community and are always offered in both English and ASL. Workshops are on a variety of health topics and are geared toward the Deaf community. Information referral is providing resources for expanded information on Deafness and healthcare.
Services are currently only offered to residents of Eastern Prince William County or North Stafford (zipcodes 20112, 22025, 22314, 22171, 22191, 22192, 22193, 22554 or 22556), which is within the grant service area. We are hoping to be able to expand in the future.
